Barry the Beetle is a colourful picture book telling the story of a world of insects that mirrors the human world.

Barry is the main character, who lives in a tower block, close to London, who experiences the effects of humans polluting the environment.

When Barry’s honey store runs dry, because the bees can’t collect enough pollen, Barry, and his best friend Wendy Woodlouse, set off on a quest to find a new home for the hive, with many twists and turns along the way.

‘Barry could see that this problem was grave.
It wasn’t just the hive, but the world he had to save.
For the bees help plants grow, which makes the world turn,
No bees means disaster, we must help and we must learn.’

Barry the Beetle is an eco-conscious children’s picture book, placing important environmental issues at the centre of the conversation encouraging younger generations to take an active role in helping their communities and the environment.

Barry always tries to help those who are in need, trekking across London to find a suitable home for the Queen Bee and the struggling hive, and meeting some unique characters on the way.

"This is such a wonderful book to introduce younger children to the climate crisis and encourage them to help. I would really recommend this for 5 & 6 year olds. My grandchildren loved the vivid pictures and the fun rhyming." Goodreads Reader
